When in the Gem State, you don’t have to travel far to experience some pretty remarkable scenery. There are natural wonders in Idaho that are completely mesmerizing and will make you count your blessings. While the winters in Idaho can be cold and bitter, when a fresh blanket of snow covers the ground, this time of year becomes absolutely magical. 2. Boise River

During the summer, the Boise River is the ideal place for river rafting and walking along the Boise River Greenbelt, which was named one of the best waterfronts in the country. However, in the colder months, the Boise River turns into a magical winter wonderland. From the frosted trees to the snow-covered ground, Mother Nature certainly outdoes herself here.

3. Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve

Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve is one of the most unusual sights in Idaho. This natural wonder is filled with large fields of hardened lava flow and you'll feel like you are on a strange planet during your visit. In the winter, the lava is covered in snow, creating the most unusual shapes and landscapes. You’ll definitely want to add this stop to your upcoming road trip in Idaho.

4. Salmon River

The Salmon River in Idaho is often referred to as "The River of No Return." It flows more than 425 miles through central Idaho and every mile is absolutely gorgeous. 5. Redfish Lake

6. Boulder Mountains

It’s impossible to choose a favorite mountain range in Idaho as they all are majestic and gorgeous. However, if we had to choose, the Boulder Mountains would be near the top of the list — especially after a heavy snowfall. These mountains stretch approximately 55 miles from Ketchum to Challis and are an outdoor lover’s paradise. Drive or hike these mountains to truly bask in their beauty.

7. Trestle Creek, Northern Idaho

Trestle Creek is a lesser-known natural wonder in Idaho. This small creek is located just north of Lake Pend Oreille near Sandpoint. During the summer, this creek is a popular place for fishermen and during the winter, it provides us with its stunning frosted beauty.
