Outdoor Spaces In Idaho

What are some of the best outdoor spaces to visit in Idaho?

  • Stanley Ice Rink (Stanley): If you're visiting Diamond D Ranch in the winter, bring your ice skates to a natural rink at the base of the Sawtooth Mountains. The rink is free, and the skating season runs from December to March, depending on the weather. For folks who don't have skates, some donated items are available as are helmets, sticks, and pucks if you're planning to pick up a game of hockey. Since it opened in 2003, some added improvements include a donated Zamboni and lights. In addition to the skating fun, enjoy the free views of the Sawtooth Mountains.
  • Timberline Adventures (Coeur d’Alene): Can you imagine flying 35 miles per hour through the air at a height of 400 feet? Maybe it's time to test your courage. This outfitter offers ziplining with a view of the  147 arbor-packed acres on the property below. Different excursions are available, including the full zip line tour and a delicious, treehouse lunch, courtesy of The Local Deli in Hayden. Zipline participants must be at least seven years old and weight requirements also apply.
  • Lake Pend Oreille (Sandpoint, Bayview): Boating, fishing, parks, trails, and beaches comprise the area near this massive body of water. It is Idaho’s largest lake at 43 miles long with 111 miles of shore, and impressively the deepest at 1,158 feet (only four deeper lakes exist in the nation!). The history of this lake is very compelling to read as it was dug out by Ice Age glaciers. The location is hard to beat amid three major frontal ranges of the northern Rocky Mountains, so we can only imagine what wildlife awaits our cameras.
