From malasadas and haupia pie to Dole whip and shave ice — and everything in between — the desserts you’ll find for sale across the Hawaiian Islands are absolutely mouthwatering, to say the least. And while there are many dessert shops and bakeries that deserve a spot on your Aloha State food bucket list, perhaps nowhere will you find a more famous dessert than at this small roadside bakery nestled on Oahu’s north shore.
A bright blue food truck parked near Oahu’s stunning Sunset Beach, Ted’s Bakery serves up a variety of scrumptious bakery items and to-die-for plate lunches, but it’s their mouthwatering cream pies that make them famous.
What is now a household name throughout the Aloha State began as a small grocery store near Sunset Beach in the 1950s, and while Ted’s Bakery was officially born in 1987, it wasn’t until 1996 that its cream pies were wholesaled to stores and supermarkets across the island.
While their chocolate haupia pie is the most famous, they actually have nineteen other pies on their menu.
With island-inspired flavors like macadamia nut cream pie, strawberry guava pie, and lilikoi and pineapple cheese pies as well as classics like pumpkin, chocolate cream, and chocolate peanut butter cream pie, it’s hard to choose a favorite.
Pies aside, you’ll find so much more to love about Ted’s Bakery, including an impressive selection of cakes, pastries, and bread as well as breakfast, lunch, and dinner favorites.
From omelets and pancakes for breakfast to chicken katsu, Hawaiian short ribs, and garlic shrimp, you’re sure to find a meal that will satisfy even the pickiest eater in your family.
While you can find Ted’s pies across the Hawaiian Islands at a variety of grocery stores across the islands, there is nothing better than visiting this island favorite as often as you can for pie and a hot, delicious meal.
Ted’s Bakery is open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. For more information, visit their website or follow them on Facebook. In the comments, tell us your favorite flavor of pie served at Ted's Bakery.
