Celebrate Hawaii’s Agriculture History At This Epic Annual Festival
Most people are surprised to learn that the Hawaiian Islands are home to countless incredible farms, ranches, and sprawling fields in addition to our pristine beaches in a variety of colors and towering verdant mountains. In fact, agriculture is one of Hawaii’s biggest industries, and you’ll find a variety of farms scattered across the islands, including macadamia nut, coffee, and cacao farms as well as fruit farms, cattle ranches, and more. Held in celebration of Hawaii’s agricultural dominance, the 57th Annual Hawaii State Farm Fair is the summer’s best festival, and it’s all happening this weekend.
The annual event will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 13 and 14, 2019 on Oahu’s windward coast at Kualoa Ranch — a 4,000-acre working cattle ranch stretching from the towering, verdant Ko’olau Mountains to the sparkling sea.
Kualoa Ranch is a paradise for outdoor recreation and the perfect venue for this one-of-a-kind event.
Started in 1962 by the Hawai Farm Bureau (HFB) as a way to promote awareness of Hawaii’s agricultural and ranching industries, the Hawaii State Farm Fair is celebrating 57 years in 2019.
Held in partnership with the Hawaii State Department of Agriculture and Hawaii 4-H Livestock Council, this annual event is fun for the whole family.
The two-day festival features exhibitors from the state and counties as well as local farmers and ranchers who come together to inform, educate, and entertain fairgoers of all ages — including keiki who will love getting up close and personal with baby chicks and other animals.
The star of the festival is the 4-H tent, where you will find a variety of unique livestock shows, including those focused on lamb, swine, goat, poultry, and beef showmanship.
Here, fairgoers will learn all about Hawaii’s agriculture and hopefully be entertained. There’s even a 4-H Parade scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 13.
Live entertainment and demonstrations are scheduled throughout the festival, and there are several food competitions, from a corn husking showdown to burger, watermelon, and chili pepper eating contests.
