Watch Whales Play While Eating At This Can’t Miss Hawaii Restaurant
Each year, from December through April, majestic humpback whales migrate from Alaska to the warm waters of Hawaii to mate, give birth, and care for their newborn calves. In fact, the Hawaiian Islands are considered to be one of the best destinations in the world for spotting these giant creatures, and while you can embark on whale watching cruises or head to various lookout points and hiking trails to witness these majestic creatures, there is one incredible rooftop restaurant where you can watch whales frolic off the coast.
Some say that the best place in the Aloha State to do a little whale watching is in the area between Molokai, Lanai, and Maui, and if you don’t have time for a whale watching cruise while you’re in Lahaina, there’s no better destination to spot whales than the rooftop dining space at Fleetwood’s On Front St.
The popular restaurant partners with the Pacific Whale Foundation to help protect our oceans, and patrons can join PWF naturalists on Fleetwood’s rooftop daily from noon to 3 p.m. to watch whales.
Oh, and did we mention that the sunset views are simply awe-inspiring?
Nestled along Maui’s western coast in Lahaina and owned by rock and roll icon Mick Fleetwood, incredible views aren’t the only thing you’ll find at this upscale-casual American restaurant. After all, you might visit for the whale watching, but you return for their delicious food.
Start with a creative cocktail or a glass of wine from their extensive wine list accompanied by an appetizer of ahi poke, oysters, steamed clams, or truffle fries. Doesn’t this lilikoi margarita look downright delicious?
The lunch menu, served on the rooftop from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., features a variety of scrumptious salads and sandwiches, from their ahi tuna BLT and fish tacos to a chipotle chicken sandwich and a burger made with Makaweli Kauai beef.
Soups, salads, steaks, and seafood are all featured on the dinner menu, served on both levels from 5 to 10 p.m. Will you order the Hawaiian swordfish with a side of roasted brussel sprouts, flat iron steak with a side of mac and cheese, or perhaps even the wild mushroom risotto?
Mick Fleetwood’s vision for combining mouthwatering food and live music was realized with the opening of Fleetwood’s On Front St. in 2012, and we couldn’t be more obsessed.
The unparalleled views of the Pacific Ocean and the majestic West Maui Mountains, as well as the casual atmosphere found on the rooftop, has made Fleetwood’s a crowd favorite. But the main dining level is quite impressive as well. Here, guests can enjoy a rich and sophisticated ambiance and unmatched service — not to mention the occasional rock concert!
Featuring eclectic furniture, historic artifacts, and vintage photographs, this two-level establishment can accommodate up to 400 guests comfortably, making it an ideal location for both intimate dining and large party gatherings.
So, what are you waiting for? Whether you’re looking to do a little whale watching, indulge in an award-winning meal and creative cocktail with first-class service, or enjoy live entertainment and the unique atmosphere, Fleetwood’s On Front St. is an absolute must-visit.
Fleetwood’s is located at 744 Front St, Lahaina, HI 96761, and is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more information, visit their
