South Georgia tends to not get a lot of love. Many travelers tend to focus on Atlanta, the coast, or the beautiful North Georgia mountains, and frankly, a lot of travelers seem to feel like the Florida state line lies somewhere around Savannah. However, we’re the first to tell you that there are plenty of wonderful destinations down in South Georgia. Whether you’re looking for charming small towns, beautiful natural scenery, or fun attractions, you’ll find plenty to love in this sprawling region. Okefenokee Swamp, Georgia, USA

The Okefenokee Swamp is about as far into South Georgia as you can get. This magical place is considered one of the Seven Wonders of Georgia. It spans more than 438,000 acres across the Georgia-Florida state line and is the largest blackwater swamp in North America. The ecosystem here is unique and supports countless plant and animal species. You'll find a variety of great camping options nearby, and if you don't feel up to roughing it in a tent but don't own a camper of your own, RV Share is a great option.

If you're a fan of President Carter's, or simply a lover of history, you'll find tons of things to do in Plains, GA. From Carter's boyhood home to his high school, there's a lot to see here.

If you like to enjoy a bit of education with your attractions, you'll love a visit to the World War II Flight Training Museum in Douglas. The museum is in what was once an old army barracks that was utilized as a pilot school to quickly train pilots for service during World War II. There are some great exhibits here that provide a fascinating look at an aspect of the war that many may not have considered.

Okay, I'm cheating a little bit with this one, as many consider the Golden Isles to be a completely separate region from the more inland South Georgia. However, it's one of my favorite attractions in the Peach State and it's definitely in the lower portion of Georgia, geographically-speaking, so I'm including it! The Pinball Palace is home to over 150 arcade machines and it's a must-visit if you're looking to feel a bit of nostalgia.
