With Cinco de Mayo quickly approaching, it's time we unleashed the ultimate taco trail this side of the Mississippi. Georgia is lucky to have some truly stellar taco spots, some of which you may not have ever seen before. So before you make your Cinco de Mayo plans, make sure you take a look at this amazing taco trail throughout our great state.
The entire trip takes about 7 hours to complete, but if you really love tacos like I do, you can make one heck of a weekend road trip out of this bad boy. You can find the entire itinerary here.
And without further adieu...start your engines and prepare your appetite...
1. El Taco Veloz - 5084 Buford Hwy NE, Doraville, GA 30340
You may notice upon arriving that this taco shop is quite small. But you know what they say--the smaller the place, the bigger the flavor! Which is why El Taco Veloz is one of the best places for legit, authentic tacos in Atlanta.
2. The Original El Taco - 1186 North Highland Avenue Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30306
Tacos...tacos everywhere. The Original El Taco is the place to be on Cinco de Mayo, primarily because their tacos and margaritas are the perfect marriage of flavor. Make sure to try the pork carnitas tacos for an epic taco experience.
3. La Oaxaquena Taqueria - 605 Mt Zion Rd, Jonesboro, GA 30236
La Oaxaquena Taqueria serves up mouthwatering tacos in the middle of Jonesboro. It's local hotspot with truly authentic food--and if we can suggest one dish, make sure it's the plate of Mexican Tacos. Mmm mm.
4. El Tejado Mexican Restaurant - 310 Cabiness Rd, Forsyth, GA 31029
This no-frills Mexican spot serves up some incredible and authentic fare. It's somewhat of a hidden gem, located in the Econolodge, but once you try the delectable taco selection, you'll be in for a treat.
5. Guitarras Mexican Grill - 157 Tom Hill Sr Blvd #205, Macon, GA 31210
Get ready for a taco trio like no other. At Guitarras Mexican Grill you can get a trio of their tastiest tacos, including the pescador, carnitas, and beef. Saddle up the meal with a frozen margarita and you're in business!
6. La Joya Mexican Food - 1501 Rice Ave A, Dublin, GA 31021
These are true authentic tacos with a homestyle twist. If you're feeling brave (you can do it!!!!) you can order up the beef tongue tacos and prepare yourself for an entirely new culinary experience.
7. Flaco’s Tacos - 1117 S Rogers St, Pooler, GA 31322
You know what will make this entire taco trail worth it? A stop at Flaco's Tacos and to order a plate of the Flaco's special--four tacos of your choosing brimming with delicious flavors. Oh, and make sure you save room for dessert because the cheesecake is out-of-this-world.
8. Tequila’s Town Mexican Restaurant - 109 Whitaker St, Savannah, GA 31401
This family-friendly Tex-Mex spot in Savannah is everything you could hope for and more. The perfect place to grab some drinks and delicious fare, all while appreciating true modern Mexican food. Top the meal off wth an ice cold cerveza, and you'll be in taco heaven.
9. Nacho Mama’s - 976 Broad Street, Augusta, GA 30901
The thing about Nacho Mama's is that it's Nach-just the tacos that are fantastic. See what I did there? You can obviously find some impeccable tacos, soft or hard, but also a bevy of scrumptious Mexican food like stuffed burritos, Daddy's Nachos, and more.
How about that for one heck of a taco trail in Georgia? If you feel like raving about any of the delicious places that made the list, share in the comments!
