The One-Of-A-Kind Red Top Mountain State Park In Georgia Is Absolutely Heaven On Earth
We have a lot of state parks in Georgia (63, to be exact). Each has its own attractions and history making it worthy of that lofty designation. But some of these Peach State parks are just a little more special and scenic than others. One of our favorites is Red Top Mountain State Park. This 1,776-acre oasis is tucked away in the northwest corner of the state, which can sometimes be overlooked by visitors. You’d be making a mistake to not check out this incredibly beautiful place, though. The park features the lovely Lake Allatoona, miles of trails, and areas for camping.
Red Top Mountain State Park is just northwest of Atlanta, near Cartersville and Rome.
The park also offers miles of hiking trails. You'll find a great variety here, with trails for biking and hiking. Some of the trails are kid-friendly, and there's even a wheelchair-accessible gravel path.
The Homestead Trail is one of our favorite historic hikes in Georgia. The 5.5-mile trek features beautiful scenery and neat old ruins from homesteads that are long gone from the area.
Some of the hiking trails in North Georgia can be intimidating to inexperienced hikers, but Red Top Mountain State Park features trails that aren't so easy they're boring, but also not so challenging as to be off-putting to novice hikers or families.
Lisa loves animals and has dogs, rats, cats, guinea pigs, and snakes. Practically all of her free time is spent trapping and fixing stray cats.
