The Unique Village In Georgia Where Time Stands Still

Georgia has so much history. The state played major roles in colonial times, the Revolutionary War era, and the Civil War, and we have plenty of historical attractions where you can learn all about the rich past of the Peach State. You’ll find one of the most expansive historical attractions in Georgia in Columbus: the town of Westville. This living history museum is an educational display that’s fascinating for kids and adults alike and it’ll make you feel like time has stood still for the past two centuries.

Westville is a reconstruction of a 19th-century town that contains 17 antebellum-era buildings furnished to represent life in a Southern village around the time of the Civil War.

Westville was opened in Columbus in 2019 after the buildings were moved from Lumpkin.
If you're not familiar with the concept of a living history museum, it's a museum that's set up as a walk-in historical re-enactment. Actors go about their lives just as people would have actually done many years ago.

The end result is that you, the visitor, are essentially transported into history and see what it would be like to have actually lived in the era that on display.
Westville features several actors who are skilled tradesmen, so you can watch crafts like leather-making, quilting, and blacksmithing just as it would have been done during the 19th century.
