Enjoy A Slice And A Pint At The Charming Willapa Brewing Co. In Washington

South Bend is a tiny town situated on the shores of the Willapa River in Pacific County. Aside from being considered the gateway to Willapa Bay, there's not much to it. But if you ever happen to find yourself in the area, don't pass up an opportunity to check out Willapa Brewing Company. Not only does this local microbrewery have a great story, but it also happens to have fantastic beer and irresistible pizza, two things that can easily make your day brighter.

It all started over 25 years ago, when Kevin McMurry, one of the owners, started home brewing in his spare time.

Kevin passed on his knowledge to his son, Ryan, and his apprentice, Matt. Together with Kevin's wife, daughter Julie, and son-in-law Shane, the family operates the brewery together.

Willapa Brewing Co. was founded in part to create local jobs and attract more tourism to the area.

They've been quite successful, drawing in tourists on their way to the coast who stop in for a beer and some swag.

There's a rotating selection of wines and hard ciders available here, but the beer is definitely the star of the show.

Ryan and Matt do most of the brewing these days, although Kevin continues to create tasty recipes.

The rotating tap list has plenty of classics as well as a few unique creations.

Raspberry Chipotle Chili Ale or Donkey Puncher Imperial Oatmeal Stout, anyone?

But even if you don't imbibe, this place is worth visiting for the pizza alone.

Getting a pizza oven was the best thing this team ever did (aside from perfecting the art of brewing beer, of course).

The hand-crafted artisan pizzas are 12" in size and come with a long list of potential toppings and combinations.

And if you live in the area, you can get a pizza punch card and get your 13th pie for free. They add up faster than you might think.

The food menu also includes oysters, nachos, cheesy bread, and a rotating soup selection like Zupa Toscana.

Willapa Brewing Co. is open Wednesday - Monday from noon until 7 p.m. (8p.m. on the weekends).

The team takes Tuesdays off for some much-needed rest and brainstorming for future brewing.
