When you think of cheesesteaks, you think of Philadelphia, where the sandwich was invented in the early 1930s. Utah is more than 2,000 miles away, but we do have a few spots around the state where you can get a legit cheesesteak. Have you visited The Italian Place?
The Italian Place got its start in the mid-1970s. Though it went through a few different owners over the years, this little sandwich shop at 1086 S. State Street in Orem is still around.
Though the sign post met its demise awhile ago, the original sign is still here, too!
Currently, folks in Utah County have three locations to choose from: the original Orem shop, Lindon, and Spanish Fork.
Each of these casual eateries is similar. You'll place your order at the window, then find a seat to enjoy your sandwich. Soda fountain drinks and bags of chips accompany your meal.
Over the years, many people have tried to franchise this restaurant in other states. Why? Because these cheesesteaks are seriously legit.
The signature sandwich is the "Steak 'n Everything," which comes piled high with steak, onions, mushrooms, green peppers, tomatoes and melty Provolone cheese.
Just one bite, and you'll fall in love. The ingredients are top-quality, and the flavor is spot-on. If you couldn't see the Wasatch Mountains from the parking lot, you might think you're in Philadelphia!
Other favorites include the Zeus, which is loaded with pastrami, steak, banana peppers, tomatoes, pickles, and mustard, and the Philly 'n Everything, which is just like the steak sandwich, but with cream cheese added.
Stop by for pick-up or dine in at any of the three locations. They're all open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday til 10 p.m., closed Sunday.
See The Italian Place's full menu on its website, and check out its Facebook page for more mouthwatering photos.
