Utah is often accused of focusing more on national chain restaurants than more unique, interesting local joints. While the Beehive State certainly has its share of Olive Gardens and Chili's, you'll also find tons of down-home, hole-in-the-wall spots that have been serving Utah diners for decades. Here's one popular spot that makes you feel like family every time you visit.
Ray's Tavern has been serving customers since 1943. Its slogan is "The Place For Everyone," and that's absolutely true.
While you'll often find a line of motorcycles parked outside this little restaurant in Green River, don't be fooled into thinking that this is just a biker bar.
Inside, you'll find a wonderful, eclectic mix of people: bikers, hikers, locals, tourists, super cool dudes and total dweebs.
You'll also find families with children, because despite the word "Tavern" in the name, this is a restaurant...not a bar.
It doesn't matter who you are, what you look like, or what you're driving (or riding). Ray's Tavern is the kind of place where everyone welcomes you with big smiles.
And the staff? They'll treat you just like a family member (except they don't make you clear your dishes when you're done!)
The dining room isn't fancy, but it's comfortable and has plenty of original fixtures, which add to the charm.
You'll also love the beautiful, hand-crafted booths and tables.
So, what's good to eat here? Honestly...everything! The steaks are thick, juicy and grilled to perfection.
The burgers are definitely a favorite here, too. They're chargrilled and served alongside a pile of hand-cut French fries.
Ray's also has a great selection of beer on tap.
Save room for dessert, because the apple pie is homemade.
Visit Ray's Tavern at 35 S. Broadway in Green River.
It's open seven days a week from 11 AM to 9 PM.
