We can't imagine a Utah town without a Mexican food restaurant. Utahns love their tacos, fajitas, and burritos, and have strong opinions about which restaurants are authentic, and which are not.

Residents in the city of Ogden didn't enjoy Mexican food at a restaurant until 1963, when El Matador opened its doors. Now it's a local favorite!

When El Matador opened in Ogden in 1963, it was the first Mexican restaurant in the city, and it quickly became a popular spot.

From the outside, the restaurant looks like an old Spanish mission, and when you walk into the dining room, you'll find even more authentic atmosphere.

Check out the bright, colorful mural on the wall...

...and appreciate the smaller design details, like stained-glass windows, framed portraits, and decorative items from Mexico.

The cantina is a bright, lively spot to enjoy a margarita or Mexican beer. This family-owned restaurant provides excellent service, too. From the moment you walk in to the last bite of dessert, you'll enjoy interacting with the friendly staff here.

You'll start your meal with chips and salsa. El Matador also brings out a little bowl of grated cheese to enjoy with your appetizer.

Then, dive into your entree! The food here is absolutely delicious, and you'll want to come hungry, because the portions are large.

Whether you try the tacos, sink your teeth into some enchiladas, or mix it up with a comb platter, you're sure to be pleased. El Matador will also customize your meal - just tell them how you like it!

Visit El Matador seven days a week for lunch or dinner. The restaurant opens daily at 11 a.m.

You're going to want to see all the mouthwatering items on the menu, so check out El Matador's website. What's your favorite thing to order there?

Did you know that Ogden is the oldest town in the Beehive State? It's true, and you should pay it a visit.
