Located on South Shepherd Drive near River Oaks, Doris Metropolitan in Houston is a high-end, award-winning steakhouse with a Middle Eastern flair.
The atmosphere is decidedly upscale, yet still relaxing, and guests feel comfortable and taken care of from the moment they walk through the door.
From appetizers to dessert, the menu is brimming with incredible, flavor-packed dishes. Perhaps you'll start with an appetizer, such as the restaurant's signature sweetbreads or carpaccio of beef, before moving on to the main course.
When it comes to choosing an entrée, you have a myriad of options - and it's impossible to go wrong no matter what you order. Whether you opt for lamb chops, fall-off-the-bone short ribs, or the "Doris Burger," which is served on a black brioche bun, the cuisine here is thoughtfully crafted and elevated to a whole new level.
For the full Doris Metropolitan experience, however, you have to order a steak. Aged in-house for a minimum of 25 days, the selections range from ribeye to New York strip to porterhouse to both American and Japanese Wagyu - and the meat isn't only on fire when it's on the grill...
When you order one of the restaurant's famous "Butcher Boards," which are custom, made-to-order steak platters designed for sharing, the meat arrives to your table in a blaze of glory. Yes, Doris Metropolitan literally sets your food on fire!
Your options include a 10-ounce butcher's cut, 18-ounce ribeye or bone-in New York strip, 30-ounce bone-in ribeye, and 34-ounce porterhouse. Some of the cuts are a bit pricey, but remember, they feed a crowd!
Along with your flaming steak, side dishes such as asparagus gratin, truffle fries, root vegetable puree, Israeli salad, and Msabbaha (tahini, chickpeas, cumin, parsley, and olive oil) make for a well-rounded meal that your taste buds will remember for years to come.
Steak isn't the only menu item that gets set on fire at Doris Metropolitan. Flaming cocktail, anyone?
