Few things in this life are as satisfying to discover as new, lifelong favorite places, be they destinations, state or National parks, or even restaurants. Anyone seeking out a unique, off-the-beaten-path restaurant in South Dakota is in luck right about now, because I just happened to find the perfect spot to make your new fave.
The Great Plains Family Restaurant is as classic and traditional as its name implies but with a modern twist, including a menu full of all the best comfort food you can think of. It's truly dining like you would at Nana's house, and I promise every item on the menu is an absolute treat. The overall atmosphere and vibes are calm and low-key, with a modern diner feel thrown in to make it truly one-of-a-kind.
Located in the town of Mobridge (which even many locals couldn't even tell ya about!), this diner is everything that is right with Midwestern dining. It's incredibly delicious and prepared with all the love in the world, and it shows.
The portion sizes are quite generous, as one would expect from a spot like this one. Everything about the experience lives up to or exceeds expectations, and it's truly a shame that more folks don't know about this wonderful little hidden gem restaurant in South Dakota.
If you were to ask me what my favorite thing on the menu at Great Plains is, that'd take a few minutes to really process. There are so many delectable options that at first it might seem a bit overwhelming; no worries, though - start with your favorite thing and then pick something new every time you return (and you WILL return - it's wonderful). I digress: If asked about my favorite dishes, I think the brisket sandwich (pictured above) might just take the cake... er, the cattle?
And guess what? I've got even more great news; GPFR has an all-day breakfast, so if you're feeling it at 2:30 in the afternoon, you can go for it. I'm not sure what it is about all-day breakfast that's so much fun, but it really is! Breakfast fans: rejoice!
Another thing worth mentioning about this wonderful little hidden gem is the awesome views of the Missouri River, which meanders along right outside. So that's three things that ought to inspire you - the food, the service, and the views!
