You may already know that the oldest tavern in the country is right here in Rhode Island. It just so happens that the oldest restaurant on wheels is also in Rhode Island. "The Original" Haven Brothers Diner in Providence is not only one of the oldest restaurants in the state, but one of the most unique restaurants in Rhode Island. Let's take a look:
Haven Brothers Diner has become a Rhode Island staple over the decades. It claims to be the oldest restaurant on wheels in the nation and dates all the way back to 1888! It's certainly one of the most unique restaurants in Rhode Island.
In its original form, it existed as a lunch-drawn wagon started by Anne Philomena Haven.
This means that for more than a century, this cart diner has been serving American comfort food classics like hot dogs, burgers, french fries, and milkshakes. It's one of the best places to eat in Rhode Island.
Though it does travel for special events, you can usually find it parked on Dorrance Street by Kennedy Plaza. It's also open till very late in the night.
Haven Brothers, as one of the most iconic and oldest restaurants in Rhode Island, has even traveled to Manhattan to be featured on the Today Show with Meredith Vieira and Matt Lauer.
Inside seating might be limited, but enjoying a quick bite to eat inside at one of the best restaurants in Rhode Island is a purely Providence experience that is definitely worth having at least once.
