We Wandered Off-The-Beaten-Path And Discovered This Adorable Eatery In Oregon

If you're on the hunt for a hidden culinary gem to go to brunch in Oregon, head to Flattop and Salamander. Named after the industrial cooking equipment, this off-the-beaten-path restaurant is one of Portland's finest breakfast and lunch spots for those in the know.

We discovered this outstanding cafe, hidden in the corner of a strip mall along Southeast Morrison, by chance — and I can't wait to return!

We didn't expect to find such a delicious eatery tucked next to a parking lot, a pediatric dentist's office, and other businesses.

But it turned out to be the perfect spot for a birthday brunch.

Flattop and Salamander was created by Samantha Castle and Todd Brown, who have over 40 years of combined restaurant experience.

My corned beef Ruben sandwich was fantastic—but the thick-cut fries stole the show.

My daughter's breakfast tacos were top notch too.

Sweeter options include blueberry-studded French toast, waffle dishes, and more.

The fried chicken sliders are a fun take on the chicken sandwich.

Also on the menu are burgers, veggie hash, eggs, salad, and more. Try the homemade hot sauces as well.

Every dish we tried was a winner, including the loaded hash browns. I can't wait to return!
