This Oregon Farm Stand Is Worth a Stop Just for the Pies
Visit this farm stand in Oregon's Willamette Valley for state-wide famous pies and other local goodies.
“Pie fixes everything,” or at least that’s what the Blue Raeven farm stand in Oregon’s Willamette Valley will have you believe. And yet, these are not just empty words; it’s a trademarked motto that they are more than confident in proving. From berry fields to a pie empire to stretching their influence into other facets of agriculture and sales, this family-owned business keeps growing with no intent to stop.

The farm stand’s story starts in 1987 with berry fields (blueberries, to be exact) and the wish of a woman named Patty DeRaeve. What started from a wish for a few blueberries to be planted near her house soon became nearly a hundred acres of blueberry fields. As you might guess, this is also where the name Blue Raeven was derived from.
Today, there are more than 130 acres of berry fields, as well as apple and peach orchards, kept safely in the hands of four generations of family members. The Blue Raeven farm stand, located in Amity and open every day, has long been a favorite of locals who claim that the flaky crust of the pie, as well as the long list of different flavors, is what sets them apart from all others.
So, how many flavors are there really? Frankly, too many to list here, but to quickly summarize: fifteen berry flavors (marionberry, a flavor local to Oregon, is considered to be the favorite), multiple cream-based flavors, savory flavors (the take home pot-pie is another local favorite), and seasonal flavors (think pumpkin, pecan, etc.).

It’s not just the crust and flavors that customers appreciate, but it’s also the dedication to making sure that as many people as possible can enjoy their pies. Freshly-made pies are available every day, of course, but so are take-home pies with detailed instructions both given to buyers in person, as well as available on their website. Additionally, the farm stand stocks sugar-free and gluten-free pies daily and can even accommodate other food intolerances/avoidances, such as dairy allergies, when called in advance.

Yes, Blue Raeven’s pies are famous and sold in local stores all over the state. But as their empire grew, so too did what they were able to offer their customers. The farm stand offers other baked goods (cookies, breads, muffins, etc), but also houses a build-your-own sandwich bar, local produce, an ice cream stand, and a full store of local products that showcase their dedication to keeping things as community-minded as possible. For example, their truffles are from a monastery down the road, the tea is local to the area, the honey and caramel are made by Blue Raeven, and the pepper jelly is from Tualatin. Even when the demand for their berries far exceeds what their fields can produce, they turn to other farms near Amity for more.

This farm stand lies just off the road as one pulls into/leaves Amity, following farmland and vineyards. Larger than it seems, it is perhaps one of the Willamette Valley’s best-known “secrets” and truly does prove that pie, in fact, fixes everything.
