When you're looking for a secluded and special place to dine, sometimes perception is more important than reality. These days, it can be hard to find a place that's truly in the middle of nowhere. It seems that even the hole-in-the-wall spots become more popular over time and eventually your favorite local spot is known to all. While that's great for business, it can be hard to get used to. Today, we bring you a lovely spot for a meal in Southern Maine. It might not be completely secluded, but it certainly does feel that way when you're gazing out the windows over the sea!
MC Perkins Cove, located in Ogunquit, is a beautiful restaurant but still casual and comfortable.
Head chefs, Mark Gaier and Clark Frasier, were named "Best Chefs in the Northeast" by the James Beard Foundation and one trip to MC Perkins Cove will reveal the reason.
But, first - look at that ambiance!
Sitting in the main dining room it's impossible not to stare out of the huge windows overlooking the Atlantic.
The crashing waves and the oceanside location create a truly secluded experience, despite being easily accessible by car.
And the food is incredible!
Mark and Clark first opened famed Maine restauarnt, "Arrows Restaurant" in 1988 and have become fixtures on the New England culinary scene.
In addition to their James Beard Foundation title, they have also been featured in Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Time, Travel + Leisure, and Vanity Fair. And, they've made appearances on the CBS Early Show and NBC’s TODAY show. You may even remember them from their time on Top Chef Masters, Season 4 in 2012.
Many people say that this is the only restaurant in the area to find food that ISN'T fried.
And, we're not surprised. Mainers love fried seafood and it certainly has a place in the dining experience. But, here the food is fresh and delicious and comes in all ways. If seafood isn't your thing, you'll be fine! There's plenty on the menu to keep you satisfied on land.
In fact, "Beer and Burger Night" is an actual thing here!
Come by and enjoy the Huy Fong burger with Spicy Sriracha mayonnaise, cheddar cheese, iceberg lettuce and chopped house made pickles.
Wednesday is date night where you can enjoy a three course meal and a bottle of wine for under $50 per couple!
And on Sundays, come by for the Sunday Jazz Brunch.
Or, forget the special events and simply show up when the sky looks like this!
