Fast food might not be the obvious choice for a meal when you're in Maine, but that might just be the result of looking in the wrong places. While we would never recommend skipping out on the local mom-and-pop shops or the fish shacks that dot the coast, if you're in a pinch you might want to check out an ultra-unique McDonald's in one of the state's most famous shopping towns! One thing is for sure, the McDonald's in Freeport is unlike anything you have ever seen before and makes for a memorable spot to stop whenever you are spending time in town. Who knows next time you visit L.L. Bean you might just want to make a trip to a one-of-a-kind fast food place. We would highly recommend taking a closer look.

Welcome to the Freeport McDonald's located on Mallett Drive.

You will find this McDonald's right on the edge of the main downtown area of Freeport. If you come into town from the interstate you will see this unique historical building as you pass by.

If you've been to Freeport but have never seen this location, there's a good chance you've driven right by it thinking it was a doctor's office or even a private home. You won't find those giant golden arches we're all so used to seeing at the side of the road.

In fact, if you aren't paying attention it can be very easy to miss this incognito McDonald's. The trees lining the property shield the parking lot and it might not be evident there is even a drive-thru at first. This is all by design and makes this the most unique fast food place in Maine.

The look and feel of this fast-food restaurant are purposely designed because this McDonald's is actually a little piece of history. Located in a colonial home that's over 150 years old this fast food restaurant is likely much different than any of those you've visited before.

You can even see the old photos hanging on the walls inside showcasing the history of the property and the town of Freeport.

When you walk in you'll find the same front counter and menu you're used to seeing. But after that, this spot becomes significantly more adorable.

The mix of these two cultures combining makes for an interesting experience.

The seating area is set up like a kitchen in a friend's home. And dining here actually feels a bit like a bed & breakfast.

There are even cozy nooks and comfortable chairs.

Finding a nice spot inside to sit and eat is never difficult because every inch of the place is designed in such a way that you will have plenty of charming beauty to look at. The fireplace is one of our favorite places and something you would never expect to see in a McDonald's.

If you're a fan of the traditional rest assured that you can also find seating that feels more like a regular fast food joint.

This spot is nothing short of unique, but it somehow manages to blend perfectly right here in Maine!
