Our beautiful and historic city of Portland, Maine has so much charm and so many hidden gems that make it an enchanting destination to visit. It always feels special when you find out about local secrets, and there’s one place that has become rather popular with locals... but how you access it keeps changing. If you want a fun and mysterious date night, see if you can find out how to get into Lincoln’s in Portland, a wonderful speakeasy hidden in a local eatery in Maine.
At 36 Market Street in Portland, Maine is a nondescript brick building just like the others that surround it. It contains a local eatery called Market Street Eats and the red double doors hide another wonderful spot that locals love. The thing is… the way in keeps changing!
Don’t bother trying to find it before 5 p.m. because it won’t be accessible. However, after that time, enter this building and see if you can find the way in. It has previously been disguised as the entrance to a spa and has been hidden behind a moving bookcase. Once you’ve found it, you’ll know.
Photos of the way in are not allowed, as finding the place is part of the charm. While most places that call themselves speakeasies these days are regular pubs with 1920s décor, this place actually makes it a challenge to find it. Once you’re inside, you’re in for a treat!
Bring cash, as no cards are accepted and wifi doesn’t even work in here. However, the bartenders are friendly and the drinks are all only $5!
There are often comedy nights where local comedians will entertain you while you sip inexpensive cocktails in swanky surroundings.
Lincoln’s doesn’t have the fanciest and most expensive cocktail ingredients, but it pours a stiff drink, and there's also a wonderful selection of wine and local craft beers. You’re sure to have a great time and it’ll make for a fantastic date night!
