There’s nothing as iconic as Kentucky Fried Chicken — and yes, we’re talking about *the* Kentucky Fried Chicken. Because while you may know the ubiquitous, finger-lickin’ poultry as your go-to dinner spot or road trip treat, this culinary legend got its start in Corbin, Kentucky, decades ago. KFC’s original fried chicken recipe was invented in a humble kitchen in Central Kentucky, and while the restaurant has since been franchised and exists all across the country, you can still order chicken by the bucket at the *original* Kentucky Fried Chicken in Corbin.
Kentucky Fried Chicken is ubiquitous, and the "bucket" of KFC has become *the* signifier of the restaurant itself. (Word people know this phenomenon as synecdoche.)
Not only is this Kentucky creation imbedded in culinary culture, but it's also part of the very fabric of American popular culture!
In Corbin, Kentucky, the Harland Sanders Cafe and Museum gives guests the full Kentucky-fried experience, offering visitors a delicious meal -- with a side of history. Talk a walk through the history of Kentucky Fried Chicken at this only-in-Kentucky museum; it was here where KFC Founder Colonel Harland Sanders operated the restaurant from 1940-56.
Sanders also developed the famous KFC secret recipe here during the 1940s; and, as such, the Sanders Cafe was added to the National Register of Historic Places on Aug. 7, 1990.
Today, the Harlan Sanders Cafe & Museum is open for guests to come and learn all about the Colonel's secret recipe (but not *the* secret recipe), and yes -- you can (and should) order a bucket of the good stuff from this legendary establishment.
While a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken might cost a little more nowadays...
(Thanks, inflation!)
...it remains as finger-lickin' good as ever!
Come and do the Colonel proud; order a bucket of 8, 12, or even 16 pieces of perfectly cooked, extra crispy, deliciously seasoned fried chicken -- from the place where it all began!
Visiting the original KFC in Corbin is most certainly an experience that belongs on your bucket (of fried chicken) list! For more information, please visit the Sanders Cafe website.
