When is the last time you stopped at a deli on a road trip and enjoyed a fresh lunch made from the heart? This small shack has been serving Kansas fresh deli eats and plenty more for decades. They don't take cards, but you'll leave with a smile every time.
Welcome to CW Porubsky Grocery & Meats, a little stop in Topeka that's been sitting across from the railroad tracks since 1947.
Like any deli, their main fresh food available
One of their famous products they make by hand is their pickles, which you can purchase in various amounts, and will disappear quick if you're a fan of hot pickles.
Another famous meal here is their beloved chili. Chili is made during a limited time, from the day after Labor day until the end of April, but only Monday through Thursday. For any fall or spring road trips during the week, it's a must try.
If you can only stop by on a Friday or Saturday,
Even if you get a sandwich for your deli lunch, we still recommend their pimento cheese spread, which comes in both regular and hot. The hot isn't a spicy pepper type of heat, but it burns nonetheless.
Porubsky's is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
For more information, you can always call them at (785) 234-5788.
You could pack up a picnic from Porubsky's and then enjoy a hike out at these abandoned dairy farm ruins also in Topeka.
