Sometimes you've got to make times for the classic places around Kansas that have been there for you forever. Just like many restaurants here, this location is beloved by many generations, and what they serve may seem odd to some, but never to us. Spaghetti and fried chicken just go together perfectly here! At least, we sure think so.
Welcome to a well-known spot in Girard, a beloved restaurant named Chicken Annie's. We couldn't recommend it more, as it usually is a top spot on our fried chicken road trips. Everyone should have it at least once!
It's not odd to see people enjoy fried chicken with spaghetti and onion rings on the side. When you add on German potato salad and coleslaw, it's a whole meal! Once you've had it all together, it just makes sense.
Chicken Annie's started serving chicken dinners in 1934 when Annie and her husband raised their own chickens, but she soon needed more than her flock could feed. As popularity grew, the couple retired in 1961, passing along the business and starting a small chain of family tradition restaurants.
Today, there's always fresh chicken ready to go here, and it's a must-stop spot for those traveling through the Girard area. They also have a location in Pittsburg, but each of them is just as delicious as the last.
Onion rings are one thing that bring a lot of customers in, and for good reason. They're classically delicious, and cooked to perfection!
We'd never leave here without a slice of homemade pie, but you might need to order one before your meal if you want to make sure you get some! It flies off the shelf fast if you aren't keeping an eye on it.
Speaking of chicken, they also make a tasty chicken and noodle, perfect for take-home orders or days when you need the extra warmth. Chicken Annie's Girard is open from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
If you have any questions or want more info about Chicken Annie's Girard, check out their official website! They also have a Chicken Annie's Facebook page you can follow for updates.
There's a lot out there we might have missed, so if your favorite local place needs some Only In Kansas love, send them our way with a location nomination!
