It's been awhile since we wrote about food in Georgia, so why not bring back everyone's favorite topic with some sweet Southern Soul Food? Georgia is famous for its Southern eats, especially those restaurants serving up soul food like never before. Feel like chowing down on some of the best soul food in the state? Then have a look at these spots, where you can dig right in...
1. The Pink Pig— 824 Cherry Log St, Cherry Log, GA 30522
If you’re ever making your way up to Blue Ridge, Georgia and want to stop for some tasty fried green tomatoes and cheesy, hot mac & cheese, then The Pink Pig is your place. This soul food spot also serves up tender pulled pork, and a garlic salad the likes of which you’ve never tasted before.
2. Busy Bee Café— 810 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Atlanta, GA 30314
Busy Bee Café has been in business for quite some time, mainly because the food is just so darn good. That’s the thing about soul food, it speaks to your soul. Make sure you try the famous fried chicken, which is cooked using pressure fryers, which means it’s oh-so-crispy and tender on the inside. Follow your meal up with a sweet, savory peach cobbler.
3. The Colonnade— 1879 Cheshire Bridge Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30324
Fried chicken. okra, dressing, stewed corn, pole beans, and sweet potatoes. Those are the types of dishes that The Colonnade Restaurant serves to their customers. Everyone raves about the dishes here, plus all the combination platters you can order. You can't get a bad plate no matter what you choose.
4. Soul Food Train— 585 Franklin Rd SE, Marietta, GA 30067
It's hard to imagine that a place called Soul Food Train has anything less than stellar soul food. This is more of a hidden gem in the Georgia area, but one you should definitely dig up. You can find delicious items like baked chicken, beef tips stew, black eyed peas, and collard greens. What more could you ask for?
5. Willie B’s Sisters Southern Cuisine— 705 S Gordon Rd, Mableton, GA 30126
Normally, it's the places that aren't the fanciest on the outside that have some serious eats on the inside. Willie B's Sisters Southern Cuisine is one of those places. Their Smothered Ribs for example, are just the right amount of tender, yet juicy and flavorful.
6. Granny’s Soul Food— 1355 Blair Bridge Rd, Austell, GA 30168
This is real soul food the way your grandmother used to make, hence the name of the restaurant. Many people say visiting this soul food spot is like a backyard dinner party with your family - the food is warm and always fills your belly.
7. Rodney’s Jamaican Soul Food— 2092 Cobb Pkwy SE, Smyrna, GA 30080
It's delicious soul food, but with a twist. Instead of succulent pulled pork, you get delectable jerk pork. Instead of rice and beans, you get rice and peas! Try this restaurant if you're looking to try some soul food in a brand new way.
8. Gus's Fried Chicken—231 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta, GA 30303
Word on the street is that Gus’s fried chicken is world famous. And indeed, most people rave about the crunchy texture, and tender inside. But it’s probably the sides that Gus’s serves that takes the cake for most. Try their creamy mac & cheese, fried okra, and fried green tomatoes.
9. H&H Restaurant—807 Forsyth St Macon, GA 31201
When you see two older ladies in the kitchen cooking, you know the meal is going to be outstanding. H&H consistently has tasty food from breakfast to lunch, so no matter the time of day you go, you'll always leave satisfied. Nothing beats a good, Southern breakfast. Well, maybe a good Southern lunch.
