An Old Gas Station Is Now One Of Connecticut’s Tastiest Mexican Restaurants
Here at Only In Connecticut, we love the idea of old buildings finding new life. Why waste a perfectly good historic structure by razing it to the ground? There are so many examples of buildings as diverse as churches, banks, and train stations being repurposed into new businesses. It's fascinating to enter these places today and see the remnants of the buildings' past life - it's almost like a trip back in time! The spot we're featuring today is one of the most delicious Mexican restaurants in Connecticut, but the building wasn't constructed with that use in mind. Taquerio is a tasty Mexican restaurant in Mystic, CT that started its life as a gas station and car repair shop. Check it out:
I love how the building's past life is so obvious from the exterior!
The menu is even posted on a piece of an old car.
Inside, you'll find a bright, airy space that's far from the dingy interior you'd expect at an ex-gas station.
Head over to the bar for an ice cold margarita.
You won't find a huge array of exotic Mexican dishes here, but you will find plenty of great tacos.
There's a great variety of protein offerings, with multiple vegetarian choices.
One thing I love about tacos is it that the small size means you can test out many flavors without getting overly stuffed.
Whether you're dining with friends or just grabbing a sampling of tacos for yourself, there's something for everyone here!
