5 Candlelit Restaurants in Colorado Perfect for a Cozy Night Out
Discover Colorado’s coziest date-night spots. Warm lights and rich flavors create the perfect romantic escape.
Before I visited, Colorado was never on my travel destination list. Sure, there was nature and altitude and good beer and one of the best concert venues in the country. But something about it just didn’t spark up my brain. Then Weird Al announced a concert at Red Rocks, and my friend Kelly asked if I wanted to go see him. Of course, I said yes. I’m always up for adventure. I grabbed my partner and Kelly grabbed one of her kids; we met in Denver for a week-long adventure. We didn’t expect to discover one of the most romantic restaurants we’d ever been to.
That little surprise opened the floodgates. I started digging into Colorado’s foodie scene and realized this state is practically glowing with cozy, candlelit restaurants ready to sweep you and your lover (or best friend, in my case) right off your feet. We’ll start with my favorite.
1. Bastien’s Restaurant – Denver

Driving toward our Airbnb from the airport, we were hypnotized by the classy neon glow of a sign that reads “Home of the Sugar Steak.” Yes, classy neon is real, y’all. Inside, Bastien’s feels like a time capsule from the fifties. It's all dim lights, cozy tables, and a warmth that says, “order wine and stay awhile.”
The steak lived up to its legend, perfectly seared and kissed with a whisper of caramelized sugar that somehow made it savory and sweet at the same time. But the soup—oh, that soup!—has become the stuff of folklore between Kelly and me. We’ve emailed the restaurant every year since trying to crack the code. Bastien’s, if you’re reading this, I’m ready for the secret recipe.
2. Mizuna – Denver
If Bastien’s is nostalgic comfort, Mizuna is culinary theater. This American restaurant rooted in French technique makes you feel like you’ve snuck into someone’s Michelin-starred dinner party. The menu changes monthly to match the seasons, and the service is polished without being stuffy.
Mizuna’s lobster macaroni and cheese is the kind of dish that could start a family feud. Butter-poached lobster melts into mascarpone and pasta like an edible love letter. Even the vegetarian dishes, like roasted Japanese eggplant with miso cashew emulsion, for instance, taste like they’ve been flirting with your taste buds for days. Finish with a Colorado plum pot de crème and thank me later.
3. Il Forno Di Tutti – Aurora
This Italian gem in Aurora is the culinary equivalent of a hug. The air smells like baked bread and garlic, and the servers treat you like long-lost cousins. Order the handmade gnocchi with sausage and mushrooms in porcini velluto sauce, and watch your partner’s eyes glaze over in pure bliss.
Even better, you can take the romance home. Il Forno sells fresh pasta, sauces, lasagna, and cannoli kits for two (or ten, if you believe in leftovers). Who says date night has to end at the restaurant door?
4. Restaurant 1858 – Colorado Springs
Tucked beside the breathtaking Seven Falls, Restaurant 1858 feels like dining in a Western movie scored by a waterfall. The Gold Rush–inspired menu celebrates Colorado’s frontier roots with dishes like Rocky Mountain red trout served seven creative ways and a bison steak that could convert any skeptic. The scent of hickory, the flicker of lantern light, and the distant roar of water—it’s all a little cinematic, in the best possible way.
5. Casa Bonita – Denver

Now, I know what you’re thinking: Casa Bonita? Romantic? Hear me out. Since Matt Stone and Trey Parker of South Park fame revamped the legendary pink palace, the food has stepped up, and the experience is pure joy. Between cliff divers, mariachi bands, and glowing lanterns, there’s something oddly romantic about surrendering to the chaos with someone you adore. Plus, their cheese enchiladas are surprisingly delightful, and honestly, laughter might be the most powerful aphrodisiac of all.
So grab your partner, your best friend, or your favorite plus-one, and head to Colorado. Get cozy, get cuddly, and get full. Somewhere between the candlelight and the cocktails, you might just find romance waiting for you ... maybe even next to a giant cliff diver.
