The Humble Little Restaurant Arkansasans Are Quietly Obsessed With

With a name that is attention-getting (to say the least), you might expect Heidi’s Ugly Cakes to be housed in an equally as flashy building. But that’s simply not the case. Instead, it’s housed in a modest stone building. That’s okay, though, because it’s not the eatery’s appearance that gained it a loyal following – that honor goes to its "ugly cakes" and tasty sandwiches.

When it comes to small town gems, Heidi’s Ugly Cakes in Norfork definitely, well, takes the cake!

In 2019, it moved to its current location – a stone building from 1927.

The exterior may be a bit bland, but the food served inside is anything but! People flock from all over for a taste of Heidi’s famous “ugly cakes” and tasty sandwiches.

So, what is it that makes Heidi’s cakes so good? Well, it’s not their appearance – and that’s the point.

Instead of wasting time with fancy fondant and piped flowers, Heidi focuses on sheet cakes slathered in decadent frosting and other sweet toppings.

As far as the restaurant’s success goes, the cakes started it all, but the sandwiches are now just as famous.

Aside from cakes (and a few other desserts), sandwiches are the only other thing served at Heidi’s, but don’t take that to mean the menu is lacking in variety. It’s the opposite, actually.

Look over the menu and you’ll find everything from traditional cold cut sandwiches to hot sandwiches, like old-fashioned bologna and the Reuben, which is a customer favorite.

Visit Heidi's on a nice day and you can take advantage of one of its best features - a roomy patio with lots of seating.

Of course, if you're in a hurry, you can utilize the walk-up window and get your grub to-go.
