Nothing says Americana quite like an old-school diner - especially one that serves breakfast all day long. Mel's Diner in Phoenix is one of the most nostalgic restaurants you'll ever visit, with a retro atmosphere and hearty, all-American eats. It's definitely one of the best diners in Arizona.
Calling all breakfast enthusiasts! If you believe the old adage that it's the most important meal of the day, you won't want to waste any time heading on over to Mel's Diner in Phoenix.
The exterior of the long-running restaurant is featured in Alice, the TV spinoff of the 1974 film Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. Inside, you'll see a number of old photographs from the show, turning up the nostalgia factor even more.
Many aspects of the diner haven't changed a bit since its Alice days. For example, the world-famous sign with a giant coffee cup on top still looks brand new!
Once inside, you'll feel like you've been transported back to simpler times. The ambiance is very retro, with black-and-white checkered floors, pastel colors, and plenty of vintage memorabilia.
An old-fashioned whiteboard lists the day's specials. If nothing appeals, don't worry - there are myriad other options available on the full menu.
Mel's is most famous for their breakfast - not only because it's served all day long, but also because it's absolutely delicious. If you're feeling savory, go with eggs cooked your way, a few strips of crispy bacon, and the best home fries you'll ever eat. The biscuits and gravy are also to die for!
For those who prefer starting the day off on a sweet note, you can't go wong with pancakes, waffles, or French toast.
If you can't make it in time for breakfast, don't worry. Mel's offers plenty of scrumptious lunch selections, as well. From classic club sandwiches to handmade burgers, there's something for everyone.
