Not Many People Realize This Incredible Palace Is Hiding In Florida
Though the modern-day incarnation of the circus is closing, Ringling’s long history and influence on Florida is unforgettable. One example is The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota. On the Ringling estate, there’s a hidden gem that we think is one of the most beautiful landmarks in Florida:
Florida might not be the first place you would expect to find an elegant Venetian palace.
The Cà d'Zan was built by the circus magnate John Ringling as a "love letter" to his dear wife, Mable. Here you can see the stunning stained glass and some of the marble terrace.
Built in the Mediterranean Revival style, it was covered in stucco and terra cotta, and decorated with glazed tiles.
They filled the breathtaking mansion with objects collected during their travels through Europe.
The Ringlings chose to build the home on Sarasota Bay because it reminded them of the views from a Venetian canal.
Ringling ended his life virtually penniless, and he willed the mansion to the State of Florida. There wasn't enough money for maintenance, however, and the home fell into disrepair. In 2002, it was finally restored to its former glory.
Visitors can add a walkthrough, a longer guided tour, or an in-depth tour to their museum ticket.
