River Country was the first water park at Walt Disney World, made to look like an old-timey swimming hole, and also one of only two Disney parks to close, ever. Here are some vintage shots of the park in the late ’70s and ’80s (it was open from 1976 to 2001).

For some reason Disney World left the park abandoned, but never demolished it. The last shot is the view of River Country you can still see when visiting the Magic Kingdom, looking extra creepy at night. This young explorer took it upon herself to visit the abandoned park and check it out. It’s definitely not encouraged by the park, so it’s nice that we get to explore the abandoned park from the comfort of our homes.
