West Virginia’s Radio Museum Is A Must-See For Locals And Visitors
The Museum of Radio and Technology in Huntington showcases an extensive collection of historical radio, television, and computer technology.
The history of technology - through radio, television and home computing - can all be found at this incredible museum in Huntington.
The Museum of Radio and Technology in Huntington has an impressive display of items from the history of radio, television and computers, including the earliest known versions of each. Throughout the museum, you can find hundreds of dated tech items lining the walls.
The museum has a large display of communication radios, including those for military use. On display are many professional and amateur comm radios.
In the computer room, you will see what the first computers looked like, way before they were ever sold for home use.
In this image, the wall display was a very early hard drive, holding one gigawatt of storage. Today, we can hold significantly more than that on a flash drive only a fraction of this size.
There is also a display of a typical radio repair shop back when radio was king.
You will also be able to view a typical radio station set-up of the same period. Every item in the museum is an authentic piece of technology from the past - no mock ups.
You will also find a large display of vintage televisions, such at this early piece with a surprisingly small screen.
There is quite a lot to see at this museum, more than can really be displayed here. And you will actually be surprised at the technologies you may have never known existed, such as a disc movie player dating back as early as the 1960s, which was eventually replaced by beta max. So be sure to pay a visit to the museum to really learn how the technology that is so ubiquitous today got its start. The Museum of Radio and Technology is located at 1640 Florence Avenue in Huntington.
