Some attractions in Virginia are truly one of a kind. Whitley's Peanut Factory in Gloucester certainly qualifies. This family-run peanut business began 35 years ago and has since expanded to three locations throughout Virginia. Yet there's something truly unique about the original location and it has everything to do with charm, history, and lots of free samples. Here's more on why you'll want to visit this good ol' fashioned peanut factory hiding in Virginia:
Welcome to Whitley's Virginia Peanuts. While deemed a 'factory,' this outlet isn't technically a working factory but rather a place where you can learn all about the process behind peanut farming.
It all started back in 1986, with just one small batch peanut roaster and three employees who roasted the nuts. Not long after doors opened, popularity demanded that there be multiple storefronts -- one in Williamsburg and another in Richmond.
Step inside and you'll find yourself in the very location where peanut history was made. It's the perfect place for learning all about the process of cultivating peanuts while you pick out some unique flavors to try.
Whitey's uses extra-large peanuts, which are then slow roasted to perfection. The company is famous for its unique flavors and seasonings.
When you visit, you'll be invited to sample any flavors that you wish. Some of these include country dill pickle, salt and vinegar, Old Bay, and bourbon barbecue.
So whether you're fascinated by the unique history or truly have a weakness for delicious peanuts, you'll want to add this beloved destination to your bucket list.
