Say Goodbye To Summer With This Beach Music Shag Festival In Edisto Beach, South Carolina

The Edisto Beach Shag Festival in South Carolina is a three-day event celebrating beach music and shag dancing every Labor Day weekend.

When America's favorite season, fall, is just around the corner, it's time to make sure you get in the last of your summer bucket list and prepare for all of the fall things, such as back-to-school supply shopping, fall wardrobe updates, and planning for fall festivities including Thanksgiving and festivals. Here in South Carolina, we'll still get to enjoy some of the warmer summer weather for a bit, which is nice! And there's an end-of-summer festival in South Carolina you'll want to enjoy if you love the beach, beach music, and shagging.

The Edisto Beach Shag Festival is held every Labor Day weekend at the beautiful Edisto Beach Bay Creek Park on Edisto Island at 3706 Dock Site Road.

This is a quintessentially South Carolina celebration, as the Carolina Shag originated in North Myrtle Beach during the 1940s. And of course, the foundation for shagging is great beach music!

The festival has been known to draw thousands of people from all over the country to this charming coastal town of South Carolina.

Don't know how to shag? What better time to learn than at a fun shag festival?!

It's a three-day event kicking off on Friday and running through Sunday evening.

At the festival, you can take a shag lesson, participate in a non-professional shag competition...

... peruse arts and crafts vendors ...

... food vendors ...

... and just hang out and have a great time in South Carolina's lowcountry.

Be sure to bring a lawn chair and money for admission (daily).

Visit the Edisto Beach Shag Festival website and the Edisto Beach Shag Festival Facebook page for additional information and if you'd like to get a three-day pass in lieu of paying admission to the festival each day. Stay on the island overnight at Edisto Beach State Park, which offers year-round campsites, or consider booking this adorable island cottage Vrbo with marsh views!

Do you shag? Have you ever been to this festival?
