Folly Beach is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a series of events, highlighting its laid-back atmosphere and surfing culture.
It's official, folks – Charleston's most popular beach will be over the hill as it turns 50 this year, and you're invited to celebrate! This momentous occasion can remind us of a thing or two, such as age is just a number and older doesn't mean boring or past one's prime. Folly Beach gets better with age, welcoming almost 1.5 million visitors each year. And if you've never been before, what better time than its 50th birthday celebration?
Folly Beach, also called the "Edge of America," is a small town with a 2021 population of only 2,056.
It's perhaps best known for its laid-back atmosphere and as one of the best surfing havens on the East Coast.
So as this little town turns 50, it only seems fitting to have a big birthday party celebration for locals and for all who have loved coming here through the years to vacation to be able to honor the occasion. And it's going to be a great time, with events almost every day from Friday, September 22 through Sunday, October 1. Of course, there couldn't be a proper birthday celebration without an event at the pier. Join in on the shagging and disco fun on Thursday, September 28 at this iconic spot.
