These 10 Weird Places In South Carolina Are As Strange As It Gets

Don't get me wrong, South Carolina has some of the most beautiful sights you will ever see, but it also has some pretty weird sights too. They range from "what is that" to "they really did that?".  Some of them even put a questionable look on my face so don't feel bad if you find yourself up close to the computer screen thinking to yourself that you are really not seeing exactly what you are seeing.

1. Mr. Crab

Mr. Crab is the icon and show stopper of Giant Crab Seafood Restaurant in Myrtle Beach, SC. We can all say that it sure does set this seafood restaurant apart from any other in the city! And, apart from that, it is just a little...odd. Located at: 9597 N Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572

2. Boneyard Beach

Most likely the most photographed beach in South Carolina. Boneyard Beach is at the northeast of Bulls Island and is a three mile stretch of beach where hundreds of oak, cedar, and pine trees are scattered about. They have been bleached by the sun and saltwater after being caught in the changing shoreline of the island. Although hauntingly beautiful, it is strikingly odd as well.

3. Eddie

Eddie is touted as the "Biggest Kid In The World" and resides at Columbia's EdVenture Children's Museum. He is pretty normal looking, just extremely huge. I think it is quite strange to see a child that big! Located at: 211 Gervais St, Columbia, SC 29201

4. Edisto Mystery Tree

No one knows who started this or where it came from, but this little tree has become the 'holder' of many zany and whimsical items. To me it seems it is or has become the opposite of a Christmas Tree...such as a "Summer Tree". No matter the origins, it is just a little unusual that people would decorate a tree with flip-flops, beach chairs, etc. Located at the intersection of Hwy 174 and Botany Bay Rd.

5. Pumpkintown Opry

Don't get me wrong, the place itself is not odd. In fact, I heard they have some really good food and ice cream there. What is odd is that out front there is a giant pumpkin 'house'. I don't know about you, but it reminds me of the Old Woman who lived in a shoe...

6. The Peachoid

It has been the 'butt' of many jokes and was even part of an accident on the Netflix series, "House of Cards". What do you think?

7. Dorchester, SC

Built by Pilgrim missionaries in 1696, Dorchester was a bustling town until the Revolutionary War. It was held by the British for a while and then burned. What is left are a few ruins on a state park. It is so odd seeing a small scattering of ruins in the middle of a park and then realizing that it once was a large successful town.

8. UFO Welcome Center

This strange and unusual site is found in Bowman, SC. Some say it is laughable and some say it is laudable. I'm not going to debate either one of those, but it is quite strange and unusual...

9. Stumphouse Tunnel

It was meant to be a shortcut for the railway, but ended up being abandoned when the government cut funding. It then was picked up by Clemson University as a place to grow, of all things, blue cheese!?! Now, it is maintained as a public park and visitors can go into the tunnel, but be careful, there are bats!

10. Mars Bluff Crater

Slowly being eaten up by nature, the Mars Bluff Crater can still be seen, but barely. It is the place where a Mark-6, 8500 pound bomb was ACCIDENTALLY dropped. Thankfully, it didn't detonate, but the fact remains! And, so does the crater...Located at: Crater Rd, Mars Bluff, SC. (Note: It is private property. )

You know about the beautiful South Carolina and know you know something of the odd South Carolina. You can definitely say that South Carolina has it all wrapped up in a neat little, um, slice of pie? (Okay, maybe that wasn't funny. )
