There’s A Little Known Unique Observatory In Oregon… And It’s Truly Incredible
The Dee Wright Observatory is a truly unique, breathtaking place. Located at the summit of the historic McKenzie Pass in the Willamette National Forest, this incredible viewpoint looks out over the dramatic Cascade Mountain Range. Built out of lava stone, the observatory blends into its otherworldly surroundings; this enchanting place looks like it's straight out of a fairytale. Here, check it out:
Built in 1935, this incredible structure is located at the end of an easy half-mile trail that leads through beautiful lava beds and up to the observatory.
The rugged, castle-like windows frame incredible views of the surrounding mountain peaks. You can see Mt Jefferson, Cache Mountain, Black Butte, North and Middle Sister, Mt Washington, and more. Here's a view of North and Middle Sister from one of the windows.
Head to the upper level for a full panoramic view. In the foreground here you can see the intricate brass compass built into the structure, which points toward and identifies each peak.

Visiting this place is an almost otherwordly experience. The unique observatory blends in to the spectacular sea of lava stone surrounding it and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding scenery.
