Most People Don’t Know The Unique Story Behind This Cemetery In Oklahoma

In the little town of Hugo, Oklahoma sits a circus-themed cemetery dedicated to circus animals and performers. Showmen's Rest is a section within Mount Olivet Cemetery filled with animal themed pedestals and gravesites. The town of Hugo was once known as "Circus City, USA" and is now the final resting place for many circus folks. Take a look at some of the unique things you'll see and read at Showmen's Rest:

Mount Olivet Cemetery is the final resting place for rodeo superstars including Freckles Brown, Lane Frost and Todd Watley. The town founder, William H. Darrough, is also buried here.

Showmen's Rest is a special section within Mount Olivet dedicated to circus performers and owners.

You'll see elephant tributes and statues all around the cemetery.

This one reads, "A Tribute To All Showmen Under God's Big Top."

This one is the grave of ringmaster John Strong.

The cemetery wants every circus performer to have a final resting place even if they can't afford it, because "once you're in the circus, you are family."

This one reads, "May all your days be circus days."
