Whether you come for the architecture, shopping, restaurants or bars, the French Quarter is easily one of the biggest tourist attractions to New Orleans. Tucked away on Pirate's Alley lies one of the most incredible hidden gems in the Vieux Carre, and that's Faulkner House Books. Blink and you'd miss it, but this tiny bookstore should move to the top of everyone's bucket list.
Running between St. Louis Cathedral and the Cabildo, Pirate’s Alley is one of the most historic streets in the French Quarter.
Taking a stroll down this 600-foot-long cobblestone street feels like you’ve stepped into another world. Although today you’ll find some shops peppered along the way, in the 1920s the alley was home to various apartment buildings and homes.
In 1925, William Faulkner rented a room in one of the buildings on Pirate’s Alley.
Here, he wrote his first novel, "Soldier’s Pay."
Today, you’ll find the space as Faulkner House Books.
