Do you ever just want to unplug and live off the grid, even if just for a day or week? Well, you can and you don’t even have to travel very far to make it happen. Cloudcroft is considered one of the best places in the entire country to do so and we have to agree. Here's why living off-grid in New Mexico can be such a fantastic thing.
Welcome to Cloudcroft!
This beautiful village is tucked away in the Lincoln National Forest in Otero County where the population hovers around 800 people.
While this village is a wonderful place to live, it is much more than that.
It is also one of the best places in the entire country to disconnect and unwind. At one time a list of the best cities to live off the grid in the United States was published and Cloudcroft was near the top. Intriguing, right?
Life: simple, charming, and relaxing.
Cloudcroft truly is a small community where you don’t have to worry about fast-paced urban living.
Plus, when you want to get away, unplug, relax, and just unwind, Cloudcroft offers opportunities galore.
Just outside of town you have Ski Cloudcroft, a small ski area with winter and summer activities for the entire family.
Hiking, fishing, camping, and many other outdoor activities are available within just a short drive from this small New Mexico community.
One hike that we highly recommend is the Mexican Canyon Trestle Trail. This 1.2-mile trail takes you to a historic trestle bridge that is more than 300 feet across. It is one hike that deserves to be on every New Mexican's bucket list.
The village is also small enough that you can easily walk to many shops and restaurants without the need for a vehicle.
In fact, Main Street is so charming that you’ll never want to leave or even worry about looking at your phone — it’s so easy to unplug here!
Cloudcroft truly offers a simple way to get away from the stresses of daily life.
It's no wonder it is considered not only one of the best places for off-grid living in New Mexico, but also in the entire United States!
For more information on Cloudcroft, you can visit the community’s official website.
Have you ever been to Cloudcroft? If so, would you agree that this New Mexico off-grid community should be considered as one of the best places to live off the grid? Are there any other small towns in New Mexico you think we should add to the list? We'd love to read about your experience in the comments section below!
While Cloudcroft is an enchanting place to visit no matter the time of year, fall is truly spectacular. In fact, you’ll want to visit this tiny village in New Mexico during the autumn months to see the most incredible fall colors.
