One of the Oldest General Stores In Nevada Has A Fascinating History

With its rich history going back to the early days of settlers passing into the west, Nevada of course has many older businesses that are still operating to this day. The General Store in Goodsprings, NV may be one of the oldest general stores in the state still serving customers.

Goodsprings, NV is located outside of Las Vegas in Clark County. The population is about 230 people.

The Goodsprings General Store was built in 1913 by George Fayle, who was active in the mining business.

The store was associated with the Pioneer Saloon next door, which is the oldest operating saloon in Nevada.

The store, originally a cafe, had a clientele made up largely of miners working in the area.

Over time, mining dwindled in the area and the population began to drop after World War I.

The general store originally started out as the Goodsprings Cafe.

During its time it has served a variety of purposes. In addition to a cafe and general store, it has been a real estate office and the campaign headquarters for a justice of the peace.

The general store operates as a small grocery store today.

You can also buy gift items with the Pioneer Saloon logo, BBQ supplies, and other basic goods.

The outside of the store is covered with pressed tin, which was most likely ordered from Sears and Roebuck.

Both the general store and saloon are some of the few operating buildings in Nevada made with pressed tin.

The store is also featured in the popular video game Fallout New Vegas.

The store and its surrounding locations look almost exactly in the game as they do in real life, but in an apocalyptic Nevada setting. Game enthusiasts from all over travel to see the store and visit the other nearby areas found in the game.
