Your Best Summer Experience in Nebraska Isn’t by Car, It’s on a Swan Pedal Boat

Ditch the kayak and create fun, summertime memories as you drift along a scenic lake inside these dreamy swan boats in Nebraska.

Summer is all about creating fun new memories. One of my favorite things to do during the warmer months is to spend time on the water. Whether it’s boating, swimming, or simply having a picnic while soaking up the breathtaking views, I am here for it all.

Some folks in Nebraska enjoy kayaking or floating down a lazy river. Others like to kick things up a notch and ride the rapids at North Fork Whitewater Park. While these activities are exciting, I prefer a more low-key adventure on the water. If you agree with me, then you’ll enjoy these swan pedal boats at Yanney Heritage Park in Kearney. This whimsical summer adventure in Nebraska is one of the best ways for families, friends, and couples to spend a lovely summer day.

Yanney Heritage Park is a hidden gem oasis in south-central Nebraska. The unique community park was once a cornfield until native philanthropist Michael B. Yanney transformed the 80-acre land into one of the best recreational facilities in the area. Managed by the City of Kearney, the goal is to facilitate “the finest family park between Omaha and Denver.” And oh, what a wonderful family-friendly park it is!

Some of the amenities include seven themed gardens, a massive observation tower, a waterfront amphitheater for events, a fishing pier, a splash pad, and a playground for the kiddos. Moreover, there is also a senior activity center which hosts social and recreational activities for folks over 50.

Miles of multi-use trails allow parkgoers to hike, jog, and bike while marveling at views of the wetlands and waterways. And speaking of wetlands, the two-mile Kearney Water Trail, which winds through the city, is a wonderful way to witness local wildlife in their natural habitat.

As the crown jewel of the park, the tranquil lake is a haven for fishing, kayaking, and birdwatching. While these are fun activities, I would much rather do something a bit more unique. And that’s where the swan pedal boats come in. The onsite marina, Yanney Swan Shoppe, rents these water vessels from May through August. If you want to have a memorable time on the water, these boats are the way to do it.

But why choose a swan boat? Well, they require no experience, so they’re great for families with kids or senior citizens. Plus, the boat allows for a leisure float where you can socialize and create lasting memories with your loved ones. Not to mention, swan boats are dreamy and provide tons of photo opportunities. Did I mention that it’s inexpensive to rent these watercrafts? In fact, it will cost less than $15 for a family of five to paddle around for an hour.

With all its amenities, you could easily spend an entire day at Yanney Heritage Park. But no matter what you do, carve out some time to cruise across the lake in a swan boat. This summer adventure in Nebraska is a fantastic way to spend the day.

Visit the Yanney Heritage Park website to learn more about the amenities, upcoming events, and to start planning your visit.
