It's no mystery how much we love our beautiful city. Have you ever just been in the right place at the right time for that perfect shot? Of course, some places are more photogenic than others, but where exactly are the best spots to take photos? We're here to discover some of the best places in town to use your camera.
1. The Henry Wollman Bloch Fountain
This amazing fountain near Union Station is the highlight of many great fountain photos in KC. Of course, our sunsets playing through the water help out a lot!
2. Museum at Prairiefire
This amazing museum front was built with special glass developed by NASA to refract light and change color differently based on it's surroundings. Its sounds magical, but watching this glass as the sun sets is even better.
3. The Scout Statue
This stoic Native American standing at Penn Valley Park is the perfect subject for photos from every angle. Add in one of our amazing sunsets and you've got an award winning postcard just waiting to happen.
4. The Shuttlecocks at the Nelson-Atkins Museum
These shuttlecocks are the perfect pieces to take a photo with whether you're new to Kansas City or a long-time resident. They're just so lighthearted and fun!
5. Graffiti in the West Bottoms
All over town, you'll find colorful street art just like this, and each piece has hours of care put into its creation. Consider it a painting that needed bricks instead of canvas.
6. The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts
The metallic plating on the outside of this curiously shaped building refracts the sunlight just right in the mornings. In the evenings, sunset colors are mirrored on the surface to illuminated the building in different hues.
7. The Western Auto sign
This classic icon of Kansas City has been photographed a million times, but it never seems to get old, no matter how many times we see it.
8. The Temple Room at the Nelson-Atkins Museum
The entire museum is full of art, but the feeling inside the Temple Room is unique. Take a walk around the center statue and gaze at the beauty of the room's design.
9. Union Station
Union Station is one of our most beloved buildings, and the interior is absolutely stunning. All history aside, I could lie down and stare at the ceiling for hours just enjoying the artistry involved in it's creation.
10. The J.C. Nichols Fountain
This famous Plaza fountain features striking horse statues facing outwards, and it's even more beautiful when the water is dyed for a special event or holiday. How many other places do you know that dye their fountains different colors?
11. The Plaza Christmas Lights
During the holidays, the Plaza lights up with the most magical lights around. What was just a shopping center before becomes a holiday destination for people all over.
12. The Library and Parking Garage at 10th and Wyandotte.
The books lining the building adjacent to the library make for a striking photo of unique architecture you won't find anywhere else. Classics and other cult favorites become part of the scenery and the subject for great photos.
13. The Skyline from the Liberty Memorial
Of course, our Liberty Memorial is beautiful, but the best photos of KC as a whole are taken there. Just look at that amazing skyline and sunset!
