Here Are the 8 Best Places To Go Sled Riding In Kansas City This Winter

Sometimes it's better to be prepared for a snow day rather than waiting on snow to actually happen. Though in past years we've had either no snow at all or lots of it, we hope this year there's at least a few days where we can all enjoy white winter scenes in all our favorite places. Though we're supposed to have a mild winter, that doesn't mean we shouldn't make sure we have plans to enjoy the snow to its fullest. Here's eight of the best places to go sledding in the KC area this year.

8. Memorial Chapel - 626 Scott Ave., Fort Leavenworth, Kansas

Though you won't be sledding at the actual church, the hills nearby are great for sledders of all ages.

7. Stubby Park - 298 Poplar St., Leavenworth, Kansas

This little park hidden in Leavenworth isn't too far from home, but it's a good area to go sledding when you would rather avoid the crowds at our more popular hills.

6. Penn Valley Park - West 28th & Wyandotte, Kansas City, Missouri

Try to sled away from the little lake here, but otherwise these hills are great fun for all ages. Watch out for trees!

5. Westwood Park - 47th and State Line Rd., Kansas City, Missouri

Westwood Park is a popular spot for many in the KC area to spend hours sledding. It's a long ride, but not too bumpy, so it's great for any age.

4. Blue Valley Park - 2301 Topping Ave., Kansas City, Missouri

This amazing park right here in town is a great place to spend your snow day. Just like any other sloped sledding area, be careful not to slide into trees or roads.

3. Mackay Hill at Park University - 8700 NW River Park Dr., Parkville, Missouri

Once upon a time, you could sled here on cafeteria trays. These days you'll have to bring your own device and enjoy the hill as many others have before you.

2. Waterworks Park - Waterworks Rd. and N. Oak Trafficway, Kansas City, Missouri

With all these slopes and hills, it's a great place to spend a snow day, but probably not for smaller tots. Watch out for trees!

1. Suicide Hill - 57th and Brookside, Kansas City, Missouri

Of course we couldn't forget the famous Suicide Hill. This video by YouTube user Daniel Westra is a great example of the delight (and minimal danger) you'll find on this hill. However, if you're not ready for the big one, there are smaller slopes nearby to have fun on as well. It's not unheard of to break your sleds here, so make sure yours is sturdy enough for the bumpy ride that awaits you.
