For More Than 75 Years This Michigan Town Has Been Celebrating Beans
The 75th annual Michigan Bean Festival in Fairgrove, Michigan, celebrates beans with culinary events, a Bean Queen crowning, carnival games, and a classic car show.
There’s a celebration three-quarters of a century in the making happening in Fairgrove, Michigan. Believe it or not, they love their beans. That’s what it’s all about at the 75th annual Michigan Bean Festival is all about. Here’s what’s on the schedule for this Labor Day Weekend.
Located in Fairgrove, Michigan:
This legume-themed festival takes place in the small town of Fairgrove, Michigan. Visitors can find this in the thumb region of the state. It’s roughly an hour’s drive north from Flint.
Beans in all of their glory:
They’re not only celebrating the growing and harvesting of dry beans, but their culinary uses too. You’ll find beans used in soups, stews, chili, and even art.
Honoring those who harvest beans in the Wolverine State:
According to Pure Michigan, this is actually one of the longest-running festivals in the state. It’s in its 75th year of promoting the dry bean industry, as well as those who grow them.
The crowning of the Bean Queen:
No festival is complete without naming some royalty, and the Michigan Bean Festival is no exception. Every year, they crown a Bean Queen to represent the festival at different local events throughout the following calendar year. Each year, there’s a new queen along with the months-long process to select them.
Classic carnival fun:
There’s fun for the whole family with carnival games and rides as well. This festival combines the best of a county fair and this community’s love for beans.
Car connoisseurs also get a kick out of this four-day festival.
One of the days features a classic car show. There’s also a demolition derby that happens on the three weekend nights of the event.
