The Coolest Visitor Center In Louisiana Has A Boardwalk Trail Where You Can See Turtles And Fish
Lafayette Visitor Center offers a scenic and friendly stop with a nature trail and turtle pond for travelers on I-10 in Louisiana.
Oh, I-10... like many of us, I have a love/hate relationship with this interstate. I absolutely love the scenery between Baton Rouge and Lake Charles, driving over the Atchafalaya River Basin is always a delight... but the traffic can really put a damper on an otherwise beautiful drive. If you find yourself road-tripping across southern Louisiana and need to stretch your legs or find some fun new things to do in Louisiana, stop off at this Lafayette visitors center.
The Lafayette Visitor Center is located on NW Evangeline Thruway, right off I-10.
Visitor centers in general are wonderful spots to stretch your legs and talk to knowledgeable locals, and the Lafayette Visitor Center is no different.
I often meet some of the most friendly, welcoming people at visitor centers. They always have the best restaurant recommendations, neighborhoods to check out, and awesome insider tips to make the most out of your visit.
After you’ve scooped up some maps, maybe a postcard or two, and chatted with the locals, head over to the nature trail.
There are also restrooms available here, too.
The nature trail will take you around the turtle pond.
This pond is chock-full of turtles, and you'll often see them hanging out on driftwood to catch some rays.
It's also a popular hang out for birds as well! Ducks, egrets, and herons are just a few feathered friends you might see while you're wandering around.
While the trail isn't long, it's certainly a peaceful little spot that's just perfect after spending hours in a car.
It's also dog friendly! Just make sure to keep your pup on a leash.
Depending on the time of year you visit, your walk could be brightened by the many beautiful blooms along the pond.
When the azaleas are in bloom (spring) they are absolutely dreamy!
With views like this, it's going to be hard to get back in the car.
If you're inspired to keep exploring on foot, you're not far from the Acadiana Nature Station, and this gem has several miles of boardwalk trails to explore.
