We all know Kansans love their horror stories, don't we? If you've lived in Kansas for a little while, you know we've got no shortage of haunted houses, libraries, rivers, bridges, cemeteries, and even an asylum. However, this particular stretch of road has notoriously taken lives and been a general danger to kids who speed. Don't stick around this stretch of road or you'll be sorry! What started as a little fun, led to loss of life. "The Happy Seven" are said to be the spirits that haunt this stretch of road south of this small Kansas town.
A little town called Gypsum, Kansas is where our story is from today. Though it may seem unsuspecting these days, the roads leading out of it aren't to be messed with.
Gypsum, Kansas has a history of being a traditional cattle town, dating back to 1871 when more than 5,000 cowboys herded cattle into the city.
In the fun-filled 50's, The Happy Seven (as they're called) were just some teenagers nearby looking for a joy ride on Donmyer Road. Little did they know, it would be their last, as they crashed into the last of three large hills on the road, ending their lives.
The car still sits here near the road, serving as a warning to all who pass: Never speed here or risk the wrath of the Devil's Washboard.
To this day, people have said they can hear the screams and cries of those who were killed in the wreck. Would you dare take this road at night?
I know I wouldn't be caught dead on this road at night. What haunted places do you have in your hometown?
