The (Almost) Ghost Town In Iowa With Fewer Than 15 Residents

Iowa is such a unique state, in that we have a great mix of small towns and big urban areas. Whether you're looking to live in a city, or settle down on a thousand acre farm, you can find yourself right at home in Iowa. Even our smallest communities have contributed to the character of the state, so you can't go wrong either way. Way down in Ringgold County, Iowa, you'll find a tiny city that's managed to make a huge impact on Iowa history.

Iowa is home to a lot small cities, but the tiniest in the state is a title that's been held by Beaconsfield for decades.

Despite being home to only 15 residents, Beaconsfield is a hugely important town! The very first Hy-Vee store started here in 1930, and still stands today as a community center.

One of the most famous Iowans of all time, Astronaut Peggy Whitson, is from this tiny town. Whitson holds the record for longest time spent in space for any America.

In recent years, the neighboring town of Le Roy has shared the title of Iowa's smallest city, but Beaconsfield still holds a huge place in our hearts.

Take a look at life in Beaconsfield in the below video from Youtube user Kyle Munson:
