When you think of a traditional holiday season, the Hawaiian Islands are probably the last place to cross your mind. But, if we’re being honest, we absolutely love spending Christmas in Hawaii. Instead of snowstorms and cold weather, we have beach days — and you’ll still find all of your holiday favorites, from hot chocolate and sugar cookies to twinkling lights and holiday festivals. You’ll also find a variety of unique Christmas traditions you’ll only find in Hawaii, including this magical boat parade in Hawaii Kai you’re sure to love.
Light up your holidays with an enchanting experience you’ll only find in Hawaii: there’s the vast Pacific, boats, hula dancing, and plenty of Christmas cheer. What more could you ask for?
Now in its 22nd year, the Festival of Lights Boat Parade is easily one of Hawaii’s most beloved Christmas traditions.
Boats decorated for the season and covered in bright lights will cruise by the marina at Hawaii Kai Towne Center.
You’ll see everything from traditional gingerbread men and Santa hats to a variety of themed floats, including this magical Nightmare Before Christmas boat.
There’s even live entertainment! Both Uluwehi Young and Dayton Watanabe will perform before the magical floating light parade begins.
Even Grinches will be filled with holiday spirit here. If you’ve experienced this uniquely Hawaiian parade before, you won’t want to miss the magic this year, and if you haven’t been, who knows, it might just become your new favorite family holiday tradition.
The 22nd Annual Festival of Lights Boat Parade will be held on Saturday, December 15 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Hawaii Kai Towne Center (333 Keahole St., Honolulu, HI 96825). For more information, click here.
If you live on Maui and want to celebrate Christmas, head to Lahaina, where you'll find the expansive Banyan Tree Court covered in thousands of glittering lights. If you don't have time to steal away to visit any of Hawaii's holiday attractions this year, don't worry: just listen to these nine Hawaiian Christmas songs instead. Mele Kalikimaka!
