Every Spring, Thousands Flock To This Georgia City For The Pine Tree Festival
Swainsboro hosts the Pine Tree Festival, a long-running annual event featuring parades, car shows, and live music.
Swainsboro is an unassuming little city in Emanuel County, not too far outside of Statesboro. The city is home to several rivers, and is a wonderful place for outdoor fun. With a population of around 7,500, it's a great middle ground between a small town and a larger city. You'll find a number of great attractions here, and one of the most popular is an annual event that's one of the best spring festivals in Georgia. The Pine Tree Festival is held each May and attracts thousands of visitors from all over the state to Swainsboro. This family-friendly event is always a blast, and this year's rendition is sure to be great. The 2023 Pine Tree Festival will be held Saturday, May 5, 2023, but there are lots of events to check out on Friday, May 4 if you'd like to arrive in town early.
The Pine Tree Festival is one of the longest-running annual events in Georgia. It's been occurring since May 1946.
Interestingly enough, the first festival was intended to draw attention to the area's problem of forest fires, caused by farming practices. Laws that have been passed since have greatly decreased the number of forest fires, but the festival is still held annually to remind Swainsboro citizens how important the lumber industry is to the town.
All kinds of events go on at the festival, including a parade and even a Civil War reenactment.
This old-fashioned festival is great for the entire family to attend. The car show is always a big hit with the crowd (giant pine cone trophies are awarded to the winners).
The arts and crafts market has plenty of vendors with a variety of goods, many of which are made of pine.
In the weeks prior to the festival, pageants are held to determine Miss Pinetree, in a variety of age groups. The young ladies get to make their appearances the day of the festival, too, of course.
There's also lots of live music. In fact, you'll sometimes hear the festival referred to as the Rhythm and Pines Festival.
